Today’s Fragrance: Miss Dior Rose n’ Roses

In February 1947, Miss Dior, Christian Dior’s premiere fragrance which will continue to be one it the great fragrance icons of the 20th century, was first presented in Dior salons at Avenue Montaigne along with the House’s first ever collection.

From this point forward, there has been a never ending love affair between Dior, florals and their exquisite fragrance creations.

How I began my Love Affair with Dior Fragrances

Thanks to my mom and Oma, I was always surrounded by the scents of Dior. Oma is loyal to her Poison parfum, and mom keeps on her rotation of J’adore, Forever & Ever Dior, & Diorissimo. I would always steal little sprays here and there of them.

My first Dior fragrance that I would have all to myself was the Miss Dior Le Parfum. I remember picking it up during frequent stopovers at Changi Airport where my mom & I had a ritual of browsing the latest in fragrances. (Ah the 90’s were such lovely times). And I’ve been loving newer renditions of Miss Dior ever since. From when Natalie Portman first became the face of Cherie, to Absolutely Blooming and recently falling hard for Blooming Bouquet.

This year, I wanted to try the House’s newest Miss Dior. The Miss Dior Rose n’ Roses. This is yet another fragrance created by Dior’s Nose- François Demachy. Nose? Yes! It is indeed a job title. It is used to describe master perfumers in the fragrance industry.

The Nose is not just about having the ability to smell. It requires artistry, knowledge of chemistry, a steady head, and a lot of heart.

François Demachy has all of that and more. Did you know that there are two family owned farms in Grasse, France that grow roses and jasmine just for Dior’s fragrances?  And Demachy was the one that was able to lock that in.

He believes that sourcing the scents from nature is less predictable, takes a lot more labour and commitment, and is a lot more romantic than merely taking scents straight from the lab. Moreover with the use of zero pesticides and absence of chemicals used to speed up the process, the scents producted from the farming, is noticeably more intense.

And just like that, we are able to gain further appreciation to the fragrances of Dior.

Miss Dior Rose n’ Roses

The new Miss Dior Rose n’ Roses is a fresh, feminine and radiant rose fragrance. It is described as having the “freshness of an armful of colourful petals and the vivifying energy of citrusy dew”.

It begins with a citrusy welcome when first sprayed with notes of bergamot & mandarin apparent, and then continues to settle into more sensual layers of Damascus Rose and white musk. I absolutely love how the white musk remains fresh and crisp, and not dusty or powdery.

It’s strong enough without being overly floral. Imagine yourself after a floral bath filled red and white roses, where you set yourself with a clean, smooth powder scent when you’re dry and that’s what lingers on the skin. It’s as close to a freshly cut rose scent that you can get.

It indeed is the bright pink hue that imitates the color of the fragrance in the bottle itself, that takes a hold of you and doesn’t let go- but in the best, most romantic way possible. The fragrance was able to stay apparent upwards of 5 hours. Which is longer than previous Miss Dior fragrances I’ve had the pleasure of wearing.

It’s a nice scent shift to switch between my beloved Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet, which is almost empty now. I am very much enjoying the interpretation of roses in the Miss Dior line this year, and I am already looking forward to what scent will be housed in this iconic glass bottle with a bow, next.

Olfactory Notes:
Top notes: Geranium, Italian Mandarin and Bergamot
Middle notes: Grasse Rose & Damask Rose
Base note: White Musk

Have you had a change to try any Miss Dior fragrances? Which would you like to try and which is your favorite?
