Let’s Review: Huda Beauty GloWish Collection

IMG_5215.JPG

When we think of natural looking skin, the Huda Beauty brand doesn’t really come to mind. We’ve known Huda Beauty and her brand to always bring us the full coverage, over the top glam. But that’s about to change with the launch of her new makeup line extension called GloWish. GloWish is a more natural steering makeup line, for those who prefer a more natural, no makeup makeup look. Huda mentions that GloWish’s mission is to make you “feel effortlessly confident in your own, natural skin”. It’s also GloWish’s aim is to be a hybrid between skincare and make-up so you can have a flawless looking, light-wearing that will benefit your skin as you wear it.

GloWish Multidew Skin Tint

Glowish is launched with two debut products and two accompanying brushes. The first product is the Multidew Skin Tint, a lightweight, sheer-coverage, ultraglowy base product. It’s infused with Damascus rose oil, red bell pepper extract, and squalane. When combined, these ingredients work to lock in moisture and clarify your complexion. It comes in 13 shades and claims to be waterproof and transfer-proof. It is also said to have a vegan-friendly formula and the product itself is packaged in a container made from post-consumer recycled material.

It’s fragrance free and it does not contain SPF, which is completely fine for me. I never find SPF in makeup or base products to be particularly that effective and I find it confusing. I’d rather use my own sunscreen underneath my makeup rather than wear a base that contains it because SPF choices can be particular and personal from person to person.

There are a few ways to use the MultiDew:
You can apply it all over your face and wear as a glowy tinted moisturized, you can wear under or mix with foundation as a complexion and radiance booster (something like CT’s Hollywood Flawless Filter), and you can also use it as a highlighter to add extra shine to the high points of your face- because yes, it is that dewy and glowy.

I’ve always steered to being a full coverage foundation kind of makeup wearer, but as of late I’ve been loving more lighter feel, skin caring formulas and I appreciate the look which skin tints & tinted moisturizers give me. I also find them to feel really nice on my skin which is sort of on the drier side. Where when I was younger and had oily skin I was always after matte finishes, I now embrace the dewy, glowy, more radiant side of things. So of course with a name like GloWish and MultiDew- I was excited to try.

I first wanted to choose the shade Light Medium, which is what I consider myself to be, but since it wasn’t in stock, I ended up with the shade Light. Turns out the Light shade runs very warm and quite deeper (around 1-2 shades) from my actual skintone. Luckily since it is a skintint and sheer formula, once it blends out, it’s quite forgiving and it looks just fine. Just a heads up, if you are choosing your shade from this line, best to opt for a shade lighter than your skintone if you want a better match.

The liquid formula comes in a translucent tube with a pump, so it’s helpful to see when you’re running out. As soon as the tint came out the tube I noticed that the texture is thicker than I initialy expected it to be, and I could also see how glowy it was going to be. Because of the thicker texture, I found better and faster results when applying with a foundation or complexion brush rather than with my fingers. It also looked more even that way. I only used two pumps of the skin tint for my whole face, so I'm predicting it will last me a while.

Once it was blended and even, It feels completely weightless on the face and very dewy & glowy indeed. Despite it being so, it didn’t make my skin look greasy or sweaty, which is wonderful. It’s always finding that balance between glowy and greasy that I’m quite particular of when it comes to these radiant bases.

Compared to other skin tints I’ve tried it actually provided more coverage than usual, whilst still being sheer and letting your skin peek through. It concealed some amount of redness around some areas of my face, but not so much in others- so if you need extra coverage, you can pair this with some concealer. It did a lovely job to even out my skin tone and give a beautiful boost of radiance which is what I was looking for. I never expect for skin tints to deliver coverage but it was nice to see this did provide some.

Throughout the day, my skin continued to look bright and glowy even though I did set it very lightly with the Kosas Cloud Set powder as I wanted to pair it with the bronzer. It toned down the dewy-ness of the skintint but because it was a significant level of dew, it brought it down to a comfortable, non distracting level for me.

It may not be as lightweight as other skintint and tinted moisturizers I’ve tried but it didn’t feel heavy and it lasted very, very well for 9+ hours with minor touch ups around the nose and mouth especially when wearing a mask. So for it’s claim to be transfer-proof, I wouldn’t say it’s 100% there- but there’s only very minimal transfer that’s not very noticable. All in all it makes for a lovely glowy base that evens out your skintone and leaves your face looking fresh and noticeable softer once applied.

GloWish Soft Radiance Bronzing Powder

Next up to try was the GloWish Soft Radiance Bronzing Powder. The bronzer's formula is said to be packed with antioxidants and 90% naturally-derived ingredients like Damascus rose oil, shea butter, vitamin E, and red bell pepper extract. It comes in five shades, and I chose the shade Medium, a golden toned bronze.

As soon as I opened the bronzer, I can see that Huda took inspiration from her recent eyeshadow palettes that contain the marble swirl. When I dipped my fingers in for a swatch, it still feels like a soft powder, but it didn’t produce any fallout- quite unique to the touch. Sort of like a powder no powder. It is not however the baked kind of formulas akin to the Hourglass bronzers, it didn’t have that silky, buttery feel.

I like applying this bronzer with a denser brush to pick up more product and once applied I found it once again to be warmer and with more red undertones that I had initially hoped it would be. I guess Huda’s products tend to pull more warm and with more red undertones. It’s quite pigmented but you can start sheer and build it up to if you begin with a lighter hand.

I did notice that on the skin, it does feel very smooth and velvety, vs chalky and powdery like other bronzing products I’ve tried. It does blend beautifully and doesn’t look streaky or patchy. It also has a diffused finish in between a soft matte and true satin. As you turn your head you can see a subdued glow, but nothing too overempowering or shimmery. I prefer applying this after I set the face with a light layer of powder to give it a better glide.

It's easy to apply and adds a splash of warmth and natural radiance to the skin, but I just didn’t love about it was the coloring and undertone against my skintone, which unfortunately makes me steer away from having it as a bronzer I would reach out for a lot.

It’s a pleasant bronzer, but it’s not something I was blown away with especially with the other range of bronzers that perform a lot better on the market. Nevertheless, the unique powder no powder formula, star ingredients and fuss free application that doesn’t require too much blending time, may tick the boxes for some.

Swatches & Comparisons

Here are the swatches of the GloWish MultiDew Skin Tint in Light and Radiant Bronzing Powder in Medium.

And here are the comparison swatches to other skin tints and tinted moisturizers in my collection. My skintone is much closer to the Fenty Eaze Drop and BLP Light. On the days I am tanner the Laura Mercier makes a perfect match. Both the MultiDew Light and BLP Beige are a shade or two off from my actual skintone but I find with skintints and tinted moisturizers, because they are sheerer- it’s still very forgiving and works once it’s all blended out.

Here’s some comparison swatches between some similar bronzers in my collection.

And here is what everything looks like all together. Wearing the GloWish MultiDew Skin Tint as a base, set very lightly with Kosas Cloud Set powder, then warmed up the complexion with the GloWish Radiant Bronzing Powder.

Final Thoughts

IMG_5202.JPG

The winner in this collection for me is definitely the MultiDew Skin Tine. If you're looking for a lighter coverage face product and want something to deliver a glowy finish, I can confidently say this one is worth the investment. From the nourishing formula to the high-quality performance, I'm impressed with this skin tint.

I really enjoy wearing it alone or paired with other foundations as a radiance boosting base primer so to speak. I love how it makes my skin look and on the days I feel lazy but want to look alive and put together, it’s just so easy to reach for and easy to use. It evens my complexion, adds a dewy glow, and feels like hydrating on the skin.

The bronzer I could have skipped, but it’s still a good performing bronzer. I would have enjoyed it more if the color and undertones were a better fit.

I’m eagerly looking forward to see what the next GloWish products in this lineup will be!
