The Sephora VIB Holiday Sale 2020: What’s In My Cart

The 10 high end and luxury makeup products that I’ve been and still am thinking about.

Shopping the Sale! Or am I?

In my previous post I wrote about my recommendations for the Sephora VIB Sale. In this one I’m going through the products that I’d like to get… IF I was participating in this sale! Alas, I am not this year- not because they don’t have great deals- they do!

And normally I’d do a little Sephora Haul but for some reason this year but:

a. I think I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with the constant makeup releases

b. would like to enjoy and use more up from what I have in my current collection first

c. there are some items I’m eyeing that are not stocked in Sephora i.e. PMG’s highlighter and CT’s newly launched Fire Rose quad.

On top of that I am noticing more and more brands, even in the luxury sphere releasing product with shorter lead times now. Many are dropping new releases every week and I am looking forward to what they have in store for the next year!

The novelty of the whole “limited edition” thing, or “buy to be the first to use” no longer phases me, most often than not, that product will still be in stock or on the marketplace somewhere. I’m more into taking my time, feeling it out and picture how it’ll fit into my collection before making that purchase.

So this list is a sort of wishlist / imaginary Sephora shopping cart so to say.

I would love to eventually pick up these items- perhaps in the course of the next year (if nothing better comes along i.e formula upgrade etc.)- but I’m not in a hurry.

The only thing that I have placed a real order for on this list a while back on pre-order, is the Fenty Holo’Daze Gloss Bomb Set and the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray which I’m still waiting for to arrive.

Side note and a little tip: For fellow beauty enthusiasts & makeup junkies- taking advantage of the pre-order systems which local online cosmetics shops offer is another great way I systemise my shopping for the year.

Yes, it does take a little longer- but most online shops are willing to take a 50% DP first and then the final 50% when the product comes. So the 3-5 week time period helps the cashflow so that we don’t always have to pay a whole chunk for that moment. Just something I wanted to share.

Here are the 10 items in my imaginary Sephora shopping cart that I’d shop for in the sale, and why:

10 Things In My Imaginary Sephora Shopping Cart

  1. Fenty Beauty Glossy Posse Mini Gloss Bomb Set: This is one that is on it’s way to me - and the reason why is probably no surprise. These glosses have one of the best formulas on the market and for me, I love shopping for them in their mini size so I can wear more of the colors. Because these in the smaller size holds quite a lot! I think this year the new colours released have been the most interesting.

I’ve already gone through a mini of Fenty Glow and still have some Fu$$y left- but these new colors just look stunning. I’m so excited to try Cake Shake and Baby Bruit. These are beautiful worn on its own, leave the lips feeling supple, and they’re great as toppers too.

This set and packaging make a great holiday gift too! See more of my recommendations on gifts for the makeup and beauty lover here.

  2. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Wedding Belles: If you’ve read my appreciation post for the CT Hot Lips 2 lipsticks here, you’ll know that these series were on my wishlist. To be honest- yes the formula and colour is great and all- but I’m drawn to this purely from the packaging and details of the lipstick.

It’s just so beautiful and I love having a part of my collection that are just made up of unique pieces like this. Those little lip stamps are enough to make this an add to cart moment.

  3. Charlotte Tilbury Mini Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray: This is the other item that is on its way to me. I was on the lookout for to try another setting spray as I’m running out of my current Urban Decay All Nighter which I’ve worn for yearsss and am looking to try something different. I didn’t love the Hourglass setting spray- it made me look too dewy, borderline oily.

And after reading some reviews this CT setting spray seems like it has a similar “hairspray on your face” effect like the UD.

I know that doesn’t sound so great but nowadays as we wear masks, and also because I live where it’s so humid- having makeup that doesn’t budge after all the hard work applying it- is essential for me.

So I’m really excited to try this one!

  4. Dior Lip Glow: I have turned into a luxury lip balm addict. The Dior Lip Glow in pink was my first ever luxury lip balm. It works like any other typical lip balm but the pretty pink packaging, the shape of the bullet and the luxe-ness of it all makes it more interesting to reach for and apply. It’s a mood booster in itself.

Since I’ve run out- I’d like to make a repurchase of it but try a different shade that’s not the regular pinks and corals and glitters. This gorgeous sheer berry plum shade is something I don’t have yet in my array of lip balms.

  5. Gucci Poudre De Beauté Éclat Soleil Bronzing Powder: This one, I tried so so hard to purchase this year- it’s something I absolutely want to try and have in my collection. But alas it was so hard to get! It sold out everywhere at one point, and when it was available in some online marketplaces the price was hiked up much too high.

I think I was after it for so long that and wanted to have a non matte bronzer that eventually I just decided to repurchase the NARS Laguna. And of course, now that the Gucci has restocked and is available it’s like I’m experiencing a little fatigue in shopping for it.

But I would love to try it, I’ve heard so many amazing things about it’s formula and also it’s packaging is divine. I was impressed with the newly formulated Gucci lipsticks and I’d like to try another product from it’s beauty line.

6. PMG Dark Star Voluminizing Mascara: If I do end up getting this down the line, it’ll be the first luxury mascara I’ve tried again in a very long time.

I was a big fan of the Dior Overcurl, but then after trying a bunch of mascaras from the drugstore- I was equally as happy the result! Mascaras & eyeliners are typically items I pick up from the drugstore beauty section.

But I am curious as to this Dark Star mascara. Currently I’m in love with the L’oreal Lash Paradise. It works like a dream to lengthen and voluminize! The only gripe I have about it is the applicator on the wand. The bristles are way too big and fluffy for these little Asian eyelashes of mine.

Once it runs out, I would love to try a luxury mascara and if I had to choose I’d go for PMG’s Dark Star. The brush looks small enough to grab more of my lashes and I hear the formula is wonderful.

7. Tom Ford Eye Color Quad Eyeshadow Palette in Nude Dip: I’ve been more into smaller eyeshadow palettes- quads / quints and the like with a concisely curated color story.

I’ve also been into more smokey, chocolate, taupey shades- shades I used to think were boring and only needed one of in my makeup collection- but that is no longer the case. I have not tried any eyeshadows from Tom Ford before and the shades in Nude Dip is calling my name.

I also want to experience his shadows as well- it looks very sleek and effortless. It would have been the perfect time to pick this up on the VIB sale with 20% off but I’m still waiting to see what other shades will be released next year and the Dior Soft Cashmere is still tugging harder on me.

8. Natasha Denona I Need A Nude Glow Highlighter: Always on the prowl for a beautiful highlighter and this one from her holiday 2020 collection looks so beautiful! It’s more interesting to me than the Mini Zendo palette. I very much enjoy Natasha Denona’s face products- her contour sculpting powder is a staple I always return to- and I’d love to try this new formulated highlighter as well.

I have her highlighter in the Love Face Palette but it’s still quite powdery and I don’t reach for the cream too often.

This new one seems like something I’d use a lot. The pan size isn’t too large, the shade looks lovely, the finish seems versatile (not too blinding, not too powdery), and the packaging is convenient.

9. Charlotte Tilbury Eye Liner - Walk of No Shame: Another thing I got into this year is burgundy / brown/ plum pencil eyeliners vs the usual brown and black. I love how it adds a little something extra to an eye look and funnily enough it suits many more colour ways than I thought it would!

I am die hard in love with the Pillow Talk shade, I use it so often with so many different kinds of looks- and now I’m interested to step it up a notch with this Walk of No Shame shade.

It is a bolder cranberry that I believe is more visible. With the Pillow Talk, it can still be seen as a brown shift, but on the days I’m feeling for a “look at my eyes” moment- this deep wine red, cranberry shade will be perfet.

Oh and the formula is perfection too. It’s one of the only pencils that I can use over the strip of my false lashes and still have it opaque. A huge plus for an every day false lash wearer like me.

10. Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Soft Cashmere: Last but definitely not least. I was blown away by the new Dior quints release this year. Soft Cashmere was the first on my list because of the impeccable color story- but sadly it was out of stock everywhere and I settled for Nude Dress instead.

Ended up loving it too despite its warmer peachier undertones, but Soft Cashmere is something I’d see being my staple little quint that I use and carry everywhere.

You’d think at a glance it is easy to find these shades but most on the market just run much too warm when doing “neutral” chocolate browns or steer too gray when trying the cool smoky route. These shades in Soft Cashmere seem to land right in the middle. You got your neutral browns, deep chocolate, taupes, beiges and a nice light shimmer shade.

And that’s my list!

Thank you for reading this surprise blog post about the items I’d imagine I’d be shopping for if I was participating in the sale this year! I hope you had fun going through this list as it was fun for me to online window shop and put together. Who knew it would be such a stress reliever!

How about you? Will you be shopping the Sephora sale this year, and if you are- what items are you thinking to pick up? Do share then with me in the comments below!
